We had an easy day driving today, using the easy, if you will, on the New York Thruway.  It's a toll road, as you might remember.  It cost us about $14 of your hard-earned dollars in tolls.  Most of the surface was good, but a few miles set our teeth a rattlin'.

In the over seven thousand miles we've driven, one of the things most noticeable is the needed repair or replacement of the infrastructure.  Some places are in dire need.  There IS a lot of road and bridge construction and repair in progress, but IMHO, if we devoted a bit of the defense budget to such, it would make a huge difference both to the infrastructure itself and to the employment situation.  Not to mention the lives saved if we had one or two less wars.

We're situated early here, had lunch and now plan to see a bit of the area and take a few pictures or videos.  I've had great feedback from y'all and really appreciate it.  Keep it up; I'm lovin' it!

Just as we were about to leave Sara's, I spied a lovely orange and black bird, that remained abranch long enough for me to get a shot.  Our first Oriole!  A beauty it was!

We then searched for grocery stores on the Droid and went to three different ones before we got all that we needed.  TOPS is the latest new one that we've found.  A great store with friendly folks and great selection.

Erie is a tired-looking town with streets similar to those of our hometown, Butte.  You Beautians can take it from there, since this is a "family" blog.  Lots of abandoned factories and plants and a great variety of ethnic groups.  Looks like a good place to live.  We noticed a lot of Catholic Churches too, which is to be expected in this area, I suppose.

Lynnie's busy baking chocolate chip cookies with pecans... Just what I need to maintain my driving weight.  I've been eating ice cream again and it's helped the maintenance program too.

Someone mentioned singing the Erie Canal song when in grade school.  I think of it often here in the Erie area.  As I remember, one line went "Eee Riii Eee on the Erie Canal...". Same song?

No nickels this time, since it caused a conflict the last time I made the offer.

We're heading to Sandusky Ohio tomorrow and hope to meet up with a another friend from my AF days who lives near there.  The came out to Great Falls a few years ago and we got together and toured Fort Benton and had dinner at the Jack Club in Great Falls.  We're both looking forward to getting together again.  Friends... what would we do without them?
