Where I stayed
Meaher State Park
We reached our destination with ease, thanks again to the Hussy. Meaher State Park is located right on the water at an altitude of ONE foot. Not much altitude anywhere around here. We’re in Site 31, about a hundred feet off the water with a view of the Mobile skyline. Perfectly placed to see the sunset.
After lunch, we took the nearby boardwalk to see what the local bird life had to offer. Not much I’m afraid. We saw a few species in the trees, all small varieties. Later, back on land we did spy a few more, but none were in range of the camera.
One thing that we noticed outright: the folks here are nowhere near as friendly as in neighboring Mississippi or the other states we have visited. Even the kids make no eye contact. Perhaps it’s the moving East that changes the dynamic.
The camp facilities are fine, including a laundromat, bathrooms and showers very close to our site
I cooled quickly with so much humidity and soon we had both electric heaters going and sat cozily and read for the evening. And, we set the clocks forward again for daylight saving time. It won’t be long and we’ll lose another hour when we enter the Eastern Time Zone. It’s true, time does fly when you’re having fun. We can attest to that.
We’ll go to mass in Theodore, AL, just a bit south of Mobile and then visit a mansion and gardens for our daytrip. With no WiFi here, this delayed, but we’ll enjoy reading about and enjoying the experience again when it’s published. More later...
