A climb upon the Wind Cave Trail

We're relaxing now, and getting ready to look at the map and plan the next couple of weeks. We want to stay in the desert until weather improves in the southeast. No more snow for us. Looks great in the photos, where you needn't shovel it! Thanks for stopping by...
It's hike day! We set out on the most popular hike in the area, at about 10:30 this morning. The trail is much rougher than anything we have encountered thus far. But, we're in pretty good condition now, so it was tolerable. The first section goes over sandy soil, much of it looking like a dry stream bed. It continues on to where it looks like the results of severe run-off after a downpour. It's easier to look around on the way up, since one doesn't have to be overly attentive to food placement. On the way down, it's a different story. Walk a bit... stop... look around. The cave itself is at the base of the cliffs, which are covered with lichen. Beautiful views abound, but you can also see the smog hanging over the Phoenix area. They are very fortunate to have such an area so near to them. It's only about twenty miles or so from the city. We encountered at least fifty, if not more, hikers on the way. The majority were "seniors" such as we, but several made us look like kids. Amazing how hearty we can remain if we take care of ourselves and stay active. It's a must if you want to enjoy your senior years and enjoy the discounts.
