Today Kaci and I saw a castle.
Kaiserslautern has been nice. After being toasted for 2 weeks in France, I've come to the land of perpetual winter and have realized I don't have enough warm clothing for Germany! I had no idea there would be a temperature difference of this magnitude. I'm so glad I have at least one cardigan and the jeans I regretted bringing to France are all I'm wearing here. The weather was a little warmer today for our trip to Heidelburg. I have also discovered Ritter chocolate on this trip! Knusperkeks are my new favorite thing and I have eaten an embarrassing amount of chocolate while here. I've also been running twice at the military gym, but after my Puma's (NOT designed for running) bore a hole into my heel, that stopped. We've also eaten at Kaci's favorite restaurants which have all been delicious.
I have also somehow become sick this week. Kaci and I have been to the Irish bar Thursty Nelly's almost every night and hit it particularly hard on Wednesday, discovering something called "caramel shots" which are absolutely delicious. Monday night was Karaoke night and I broke my Karaoke virginity with mine and Kaci's rendition of Madonna's "Like a Virgin." Yesterday, I realized that I was coming down with a sinus infection. By evening, I fully had a fever and took a Benedryl, which just made me feel weird and a little stoned. We still tried to go to the bar, but went in a little earlier. We weren't sure if I'd be able to go to Heidelburg today, but I was feeling decent enough to go. Kaci drove us there and we took a funicular up the mountain to the castle ruins. We strolled the grounds and then went into the castle and took a pretty interesting guided tour of the ruined castle. We also got some spectacular views from up high. After exploring the castle, we went into the town to eat and look at the main Platz and the Ritter Haus. We also went shopping and I bought a pair of shoes. We drove back to K-town to get ready and go out. We tried a different bar tonight and the bartender was from Fort Payne, Alabama!
