Where I stayed
Yogis Guest house Jodphur, Panorama Guest House, Udaipur
So moving on.. we headed to Jodphur, just for 2 nights before we made our way south to Udaipur, home of the fairytale lake palace and where they filmed 75% of James Bond Octopussy apparently, and dont they let you know it..
We arrived in Jodphur quite late so got our heads down and chillaxed, come morning we woke up at dawn, Iooked out over our balcony to a sea of blue houses in the shadow of the massive Meherangarh fort, its an immense place across a 125m hill, a maze of corridors and courtyards inside a palace protected by the emense walls
But apart from that it was a great place to wander though, these things are HUGE, our castles are no where near as big as some of the forts we have seen!
Indians love LOVE taking photos of us, the young men get their phones out for pictures of me with their mates and the families get us both in for a group shot its so funny I think we might start charging 20RS per shot that will cover our food for a day the amount they take of us! In Jodphur there was this young family and the mother brought her two little boys over to us to shake our hands and then we had to have several photos with them, the kids starting crying, I think we might have scared them, to them we must look quite ghost like.. even though we have started to brown one from the sun and two from the dirt..
After Jodphur we got a bus to Udaipur, it was a "deluxe" bus well kind of anyway it took 6 hours and a lot of bone rattling potholes before we arrived in Udaipur, We stayed across the lake away from the main bazaar
We spent 3 days in Udaipur we did a tour around the city palace and a boat ride around the lake, we met this lovely NZ couple, we were only speaking to them for about 1 hour and they gave us their number, address etc so when we get to NZ we can look them up, so lovely they were, Ken and Lou.....
As we sat waiting for the boat to arrive a snake slithered over adams feet, its was mad, it wasnt huge (although he will say otherwise) but pretty scary all the same, just came from nowhere but was more scared of us than us of it I think as it bolted
We did a bit of shopping in Udaipur for some baggier clothes, its so so hot in India at the moment that our western get up is just no good for the heat so now we look a cross between a westerner and a hippy so maybe we really are yippes!!
After Udaipur we decided to go to a sleepy town called Bundi which Ill write about next time along with our rather wet time in Rathambhore and then onto Agra and Varanasi and then Nepal!
