Aqaba is a seaport, Jordan's only outlet to the sea. It is at the Northern tip of the Gulf of Aqaba, one of two arms of the Red Sea. The other is the Gulf of Suez which connects to the Suez Canal. Only had one full day in Aqaba. Spent most of the morning finding the Egyptian consulate which was then wasted because I did not have a photo for the Visa I sought. [Wound up eventually getting a Visa weeks later at my entry point to Egypt in Nuweiba.] The afternoon I spent about four hours at the Royal Diving Club south of town. Did some snorkeling there on a small but colorful reef with lots of beautiful tropical fishes. The next day Thursday 18 July 02, it would be off to Israel via the Arava crossing point and Eilat. But that will be covered in another episode.
