Xcacel Beach needs your help!
X'cacel a critical sea turtle nesting beach and Ramsar Site (no. 1351) is faced with destruction. There are two pieces of land at X'cacel that are not protected and one has been bought by a developer. The developer plans a large resort along the boundary line of Xcacel and the land the developer has bought does not have any beach access!!!! so naturally the lots of tourist (too many for the turtles) will be going on Xcacel to use the beach!
The Secretaria de Medio Ambiente y Recursos Naturales (Mexican EPA) is supposed to make a decision about the project.
Please help spread this information. At http://www.xcacel.org/ (Spanish) or http://xcacel.org/english/ (English) you can send an email to Juan Elvira, Secretario de Medio Ambiente y Recursos Naturales, who will be deciding Xcacel's fate.
