JAISELMER Rajasthan, India

City of sandstone.
Oasis in the desert,
Ornately sculpted.

28 Dec 80 Mamar near Papharam enroute to Jaisalmer

Jaiselmer was one of many memorable places we visited. Probably far pleasanter than in pre monsoon torrid heat.  Called the  Pink City because of the many structures built with pink stone. Few tourists there.

My notes are very sketchy and I don't recall clearly what some of the photos were of 01 Jaiselmer, Rajasthan pop. 25,000 N07
01 Jaiselmer, Rajasthan pop. 25,000 N07
.  Do remember that in photo 07 the group was an 'orchestra' playing traditional Rajisthani music. Probably for the benefit of a European tour group. But it seemed authentic enough.

Our stay in Jaiselmer was rather brief. Think  it  deserves at least three or four days, especially in winter.  Don't know what was pushing us on in some haste.

A young lady traveler in Khatmandu had highly recommended Jaiselmer as a place to visit so it was on our must see list. It lived up to expectations.

What is it  like now in  2006?
