15 Nov 80 Visit to Saranath, place of Buddha's first sermon.
Can't find its location via Google or in RMcN Atlas not in index.

My notes from Nov 1980 say it is outside Varanassi also known as Benares.

K15 photo "Saranath, outside Varanassi (Benares), Uttar Pradesh, India
Deer Park -- Buddha's first sermon after enlightenment. Stupa originally 3rd C. BC - rebuilt" "Temple in background about 50 years old. Clean, pleasant place, well kept lawns, colorful flowers excavated ruins. Archeological museum nearby - statues, mainly of Budda. Guided by Pat, American studying Tibetan and Buddhism. Also Miamoto, Japanese scholar of Sanskrit and philosophy.

K16 From boat on Ganga, Hinduism's holiest place. Hindus purifying themselves by bathing and drinking the waters of their holy river. The burning ghats are also here where Hindus are cremated and their ashes and remains dumped into the river.

My original notes to this photo are probably in error. It is probably the Benares RailRoad station, not the Vishwanath temple as my notes indicate.

Again misleading notes. Believe this is probably the New Vishwanath Temple on Benares Hindu University campus not the Sidandra Tomb on road from Dehli to Agra.
