Had visited Darjeeling another British hill station in the Northeast in October 1978. Under the Raj the English would move their government functions up into the high altitude hills during the intense heat of Indian summers. I have visited a number of other relics of colonialism in my wanderings. Not out of any nostalgia for things English but because they do tend to be located in pleasant locales out of the lowland heat.
