Short drive to Zion National Park for a full day visit. Again not invited along by any of the cliques I go solo. I climb Angel's Landing then wade far up the Virgin River. The steep sided walls make wading in the river the only way to proceed. Sometimes you get up past your waist. In July and August this trip is prohibited by the park rangers. Thunderstorms many miles away can cause unpredictable flash floods from which there is no escape because of the steep walls which most could not climb. It was a different and worth while experience.
That evening we left the park. There were available park grounds both inside the park and just outside. But the driver insisted on taking us an hour away to a camp ground with offensively sulfurous fumed hot springs. It was obvious that the driver was working some kind of kick back scheme with the owner. They were arguing angrily and privately.
