After three months in Perth it was time for us to move on. We were going to be heading back east to spend Christmas with my sister. The original plan was for us to get a flight to Sydney the weekend(21st Dec) before Christmas but a quick check of the price of flights showed this was going to be very expensive. So it was decided a road trip was in order.
The plan was that we would leave Perth a week early(Dec 14th) and Get a flight to Adelaide(Which is about half way between Perth and Sydney). From here we would hire a car and drive to Sydney, where we would complete the final leg of the trip by getting a 6 hour train journey up the east coast to my sisters. It sounds like an awful lot of hassle but it still worked out cheaper for us than flying the entire way and it also gave us a great excuse to see more of the country side.
Adelaide turned out to be a really nice small city. It hasn't got the sights like Sydney, or the night life like Melbourne but in keeping with all Australian cities it seemed fairly pleasant with lots of parks and amenities dotted throughout the city.
One thing we did notice was Adelaide's love with "The Pokies" or gambling machines/one armed bandits as they would be known in Ireland. They were everywhere, with most bars and hotels having and entire room devoted to pokies.
We didn't really have the time to immerse ourselves in Adelaide as we were only there for two days but it was a city which I would like to return to for another visit(perhaps during the Adelaide Fringe Festival, which is second in the world to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival)
