After the madness of the East coast myself and Caroline decided we needed some place where we could find work pretty easy, earn a decent wage and put the partying on hold for a couple of months. We decided we were going to settle in Perth. We have heard nothing but good things about the city, the only bad thing about Perth is, well, its so bloody far from every where else. When they say it is the most isolated city in the world they are not kidding. For us to make it to Perth from Cairns we had to take TWO flights, both lasting over four hours in duration. That means we had to fly for over EIGHT hours to get from Cairns in the north east of Oz to Perth in the south west of Australia. But supposedly the trip is worthwhile as jobs are easier to find and wages are better(the reason for this is because a lot of the ozzie workforce in Perth tend to get out of the city and work in the numerous mines around perth where there is a fortune to be made, hence creating a demand for jobs in the city itself)
On arrival it is safe to say that we were both a little dissapointed with Perth
We had, at this stage, been living out of our backpack for three months and we were both so looking forward to putting our clothes away in a wardrobe or chest of drawers. Its weird what happens to someone when they travel.
Thankfully we have both found work in the meantime and a lovely onebedroom apartment to live in and Perth has slowly started to worm its way into our hearts.
The people of Perth, which is the capital of western Australia, have a very "Us versus Them" attitude when it comes to the rest of Australia, which is quite funny to witness. They, like most Australians, are quite friendly and open and quite willing to take five minutes out to have a chat with you about nothing in particular. Everyone is a "mate" and after five minuters chatting to them you can find yourself being invited to anything from a sunday drinking "sesh" to a Barbie or even to Christmas dinner.
It is spring here at the moment and the temperature is slowly creeping towards the high twenties everyday. Thankfully myself and Caroline will be moving on at Christmas before the temperature gets too hot(it hits 45 degrees celsius in January) but I think we are going to enjoy or time here in Perth

. It is amazing how the weather clouds(pardon the pun) your judgement of an area but it really does. When we arrived it was wet, cold and downright misreable. Therefore our first impressions were not very good. Mind you I think the fact that we were also looking for work and a place to live(always a stressful time) did not help Perth endear itself to us.We had, at this stage, been living out of our backpack for three months and we were both so looking forward to putting our clothes away in a wardrobe or chest of drawers.
