I've realised that the Canada legs of our trip look short because the scale on my USA and Canada atlas doubles for the Canada pages – disappointing L For some reason the speed limit here is 55mph (although the Canadians seem to completely ignore it) so we’ve spent longer just getting from A to B than I thought we would (A was Blind River, B is Ottawa). Today’s drive was mainly through forest and along lakesides, and to be honest I was pleased that this morning I recovered ipod capability – I hadn’t mentioned it, but my ipod stopped charging on day two, so all our exploits since Ohio have been accompanied by silence, country music or Christian rock – so, mainly silence. Today I cracked and went in search of a new adaptor. The final approach to Ottawa was startlingly English-looking. Fields were small and had hedgerows and copses, and there were two-storey redbrick Victorian farmhouses. The built up areas as I approached the city also looked more like England than America – rows of small detached brick houses cheek by jowl, like along the side of the A3, instead of the condo blocks you see on the approaches to DC. We drove around the Parliament Hill area and business districts and I think we should start tomorrow with a walk along the Rideau Canal. Its been hot all day and I’ve been waiting for it to drop below 30C to take Harry out for his evening constitutional. WiFi a bit hit and miss here so I hope this appears. Montreal tomorrow, and I shall be blogging in French (probably not really)
