HELLO from The Sound of Music hometown of Salzburg, Austria!!

This morning, my train arrived at 4am and I am pooped!! My overnight train looked exactly like the Hogwarts Express (!!!) and we had 6 people to a cabin. There was an older woman in my cabin who was reading- which meant leaving the light on for her even when she kept dozing off. It was quite annoying and I just wanted to accidentally flick the switch off in hope that she wouldn't be able to see it to turn it back on! Ha. That's mean. Which is why I didn't do it... but I did consider it... ;)

When I first got on the train, I plopped down into my seat only to find water dripping on my head a few minutes later. I thought to myself, "Great. I get the leaky seat." I even considered pulling out my umbrella just to save my hair (even though it still looks like crap after sleeping on the train! lol). It wasn't until we started moving and the water began to pour down did I actually look up and realize it was backpack and it was leaking!! I quickly unloaded everything to find that my water bottle cap had busted open and about a 1/4 of a cup of water was remaining (FYI, I filled it to the brim before departure). Luckily, it was right next to my towel and jacket, so they absorbed it all and everything else was spared. Close call, huh?

Upon my arrival, I awoke to some DRASTIC weather changes. Yesterday in Florence it was 90 and right now in Salzburg, it is 55!!! HOLY COW! I thought I left Michigan weather back in the States! ;) I got off the train and felt like I was freezing in my underwear!! It was and STILL is soooo cold! I changed immediately into the warmest clothes I have (which isn't is a pair of pants, but capris! Ahh!) I'm hoping the weather will warm up a little bit- at least for Monday (when I have my Sound of Music tour!!!!).

Overall, I felt very safe and now have successfully arrived at my hostel where the wifi password is "soundofmusic."  Yeah, I would say I'm in the right place. :) Not sure what's on the itinerary for today yet. Hopefully just figuring out how to get around!

The hills are calling...! :)

I'm glad you arrived safely. You might have to buy a pair of pants!

Sounds like you are doing well and that's great to hear! If you haven't already booked a hostel in Poland (I bet you have) I highly recommend the one I'm at. Despite the difficulties I had in finding it, it's great. The laundry is free as is the storage of your stuff and breakfast. I'm even leaving super early tomorrow and they are going to make breakfast for me. The staff is really nice and it's in a good part of town. It's called Goodbye Lenin Hostel and, again, I really like it. Let me know how it goes for you. Auschwitz is a very moving experience and I recommend Shindler's factory as well.

Becca, thank you! However, I already booked all my hostels ages ago. Your hostel does sound good, even though it looks like it took you a while to find it!! That must have been frustrating! Hope you're loving traveling!!!
