I woke up, went to my first class, and then went to a pool and skipped my other class (parents disregard that last section, please). ;) I was suppose to go to the pool with a friend, but she ended up canceling, so I decided to take the 40 minute walk by myself. What can I say, I was desperate for some water!! I know, you're probably thinking, "Rachel. You're in Italy. Why would you go to a pool when you have beaches?!?!" To be honest, the closest beach is an hour and a half away, and since I was only going for a 1/2 day, I didn't think it was worth it for me to try and figure out the bus system. Isn't that awful? I've been in Florence for four weeks and I have yet to take the bus. But it's honestly not worth it. It's so much easier to just walk. And it gives you time to think and talk to yourself (which I do quite often).
Anyway, the pool I decided to go to was nestled in this cute little park. It was a very scenic view and such a nice way to end my stay in Florence. The pool was beautiful and reminded me much of the pools at home, except for everyone was speaking in Italian. It was so awesome to actually be immersed with everyone speaking Italian! I'm usually always with my friends, so we always speak English and you kind of block out the fact that everyone else around you speaks another lingo. So on the way to the pool, I got lost and stopped to ask for directions in Italian (!!!!!). Then when I arrived at the pool I had to ask how to get to the changing room and I had to communicate how to pay in Italian (!!!!!) and then while I was laying out, someone asked me to watch their bag (in Italian!!!!!) and then when I just starred at him like a deer in the headlines, he repeated it in English. Haha. I understood the first time, I swear! I just didn't know he was talking to me and you're so used to the airports always telling you not to leave your bags unattended and to not watch someone else's, etc. etc. I was slightly confused for a little while. lol I wish there would have been a 'pause' and 'rewind' button since I felt like the stereotypical stupid American.
Oh oh! I finally have achieved some color on my skin- TAN (whoa!) except for a spot on my back that apparently I missed (and it's not even in a bad location like I couldn't reach it) and my stomach (that's gonna hurt when I try to go to sleep!). Awkward... but anyway, I'm so proud of myself for speaking Italian!! :)
Tonight we have our farewell dinner with everyone. I'm ready to feast like a king!! Bring it on! :)
