We had another day in Cusco after the inca trail, to recover and pootle about...I didn┤t do much, just shopped a bit and had a relax, and in the evening we wentto this amazing aussie restraurant which did the nicest food. We had to be up at 5.30 the next morning to leave at 6, so the more sensible of us didn˝t go out and get sompletely trashed...unlike a few people who were really suffering the next day, poor things. So we had a longish drive to get to a place called Chivay, as we were off to visit Colca Canyon the next day, and to view Condors, the massive Souyth MAerican birds with a wingspan of up to 3metres.

The tour guide dude took us to an interesting restaurant which had v weird ┤traditional dancing┤and not v. good food. some of the lads kicked up a bit of a fuss about it but it wasn┤t that bad, just not as nice as some of the places we had been to in the past. ANother early morning the next day so that we could get to the canyon for 7am to get a good spot to view the condors. After an hour and a half in the bus, we arrived, only to disocver that we had actually left one of the guys, Ben, behind. Uh Oh, we knew he┤d be spitting chips, but there wasn┤t much we could do about it as we were heading back to the hotel after a couple of hours anyway. Anyway he managed to get a lift to the canyon with another tour bus, and was indeed, v furious, but eventually managed to calm down and see the funny side after he discovered we hadn┤t actually seen any condors yet. So he arrived just in time to see the massive birds start to glide around the canyon. We watched them for about 2 hours then drove back to the town via some really pretty view spots down into the canyon, with all the agricultural terraces. We then had the drive down to Arequipa to meet up with the truck, via a circle of volcanoes which were all higher than Kilimanjaro in we were at an altitude of 4900m, the highest we have been so far, and the air was very thin.

We were all knackered by this time after a lot of early mornings and driving around, so we pretty much slept the whole way to Arequipa. Once we arrived, got our stuff from the truck park, and settled into our room we had a couple of hours to relax and then we were off out into town for a saturday night boogie....we had a greta night, esp as the drinks were so cheap, it was cool to haev a proper dance again! We made it home not too late, but brian and emma (the resident drunkards on the truck) somehow managed ti get into a fight with some random dodgy locals on thier way back. Oo-er. they were fine though!
