Where I stayed
It is set in extensive, manicured gardens filled with native and exotic trees. There are avenues where the trees meet overhead to make a tunnel and fountains surrounded by lily pads. It is peopled with bridal parties having their wedding photos taken. We saw at least four brides in less than 20 minutes.
The chateau was once home to the famous queen Marie-Therese, who despite having about 11 children introduced such popular reforms as compulsory schooling and requiring banks to open at 7am
We shuffled from room to room in oversized carpet slippers, looking like a set of senile geriatrics at a day centre. Once Eartha´s cries had subsided, I took numerous photos until the guide pointed out that I wasn´t actually allowed to. Maybe there had been a sign in Czech telling me that, but without an iconographical one, I was none the wiser. No wonder the rest of the guests were giving me the evil eye. They must have loved us!
