Today we discovered the Interstate! Instead of constant traffic lights on the Highways, the Interstates are like English motorways so we managed to cover a lot of ground in not a long time. They're still scary though! On the way, we stopped off at Cape Canaveral and got as close as you can to the Kenney Space Station launch pad (not very close - see photo). Rachel had very cleverly planned a route that would mean we didn't have to pay to go to the Space Centre but could drive quite close to the Station. This very nearly ended our holiday early as we soon found ourselves trespassing on an Air Force base! We turned back as soon as we realised, of course. Oh well.

We then drove through Daytona, home to the NASCAR International Speedway and Stuart was thrilled to find we could go into the stands and watch some stock cars racing around for free (he's watched 'Days of Thunder' a few too many times). Daytona is also known for being 'The World's most famous Beach' (according to the signs from the 1920s!), and looked like a rundown version of Blackpool.

We finally arrived at our destination: Saint Augustine, the oldest city in the USA, settled in 1565 by the Spanish. After an hour driving around the narrow cobbled streets, we finally found a parking space and checked into our hostel, the Pirate Haus. Saint Augustine is a real tourist trap with buildings claiming to be 'Authentic Old ________' (general store / drug store / liquor store etc), souvenir shops, handmade chocolate shops etc. but it also has a real charm with its cobbled streets, original wooden buildings and
