. What an awesome back drop for a concert!! While we were at the concert we met some really cool peeps from Germany, Micah and Felix. We had a little chat with them after the show. The Killers killed by the way!! Awesome!! The only thing better than my favorite music, is chocolate. It just so happens that the town of Cologne not only smells good, but tastes good too!! They have a really cool chocolate museum presented by Lindt and yes, you get free samples! You get to see truffles being made and rolling out on the conveyer belt. It reminds me of that episode of "I Love Lucy", when she's stuffing all of the chocolates in her mouth to keep up. We also went into some perfumeries and smelled a lot of the local scents. I'd like to buy a couple bottles and spray them down in the Cologne metro station I tell ya!! Now I know some of you have been to places and seen things you thought were pretty cool. Well, you simply can't top what we saw here in Cologne. The giant Dom was okay, the rock show in the square was mediocre at best, Egypt has the pyramids.........but at the Hard Rock Café in Cologne, they have the world's largest pin!!!!!!!!!! This sucker is huge and it actually pins!! If Paul Bunyan went to the Hard Rock, this is the pin he would buy!! We could die happy now, so we had a light lunch and went to pick out our burial plots.
Okay, okay Cologne.......we get it.....you have a really big cathedral!!! It's impossible not to notice the huge tower that looms over you anywhere you are in Köln. This cathedral is the largest in Germany and one of the largest on the continent of Europe. It just so happens it smacks you in the face as you exit the central train station. Both Shannon and I exclaimed, " Oh my god!!" as we left the train station for our hotel. I couldn't even see the top of it. You definitely can't get a suntan here because of the darn cathedral keeping everything in shade all day. This holy relic of a building adorns all sorts of T-shirts, bags and postcards. It's what Mozart is for Salzburg. Our hotel was a bit of a metro ride into the suburbs. It was all we could get because at the last minute we changed our plans to include Cologne instead of Frankfurt. The main reason was so we could catch a concert with my favorite band "The Killers". They were performing for a special 3 day concert event right in the square in front of the Cologne Dom cathedral
