Beijing
Entry 30 of 39 | show all | print this entry |
Hi guys,
Well, I got back to Beijing, feeling very tired after the eventful hard seat journey, so spent most of the day doing my washing and chilling out in the hostel, also went to try and get a train ticket to Dalian for a couple of days time, having sworn never to travel over night by hard seat again, I was met with the words "mai you ying wo" i.e. no beds for the next week, so i said "ok, give me a hard seat!" so much for never agian!!!!
The following day I went to the great wall again, but to a different section. I walked with a few kiwi's who were working in Beijing. The track was pretty cool as the majority of the wall here hadnt been reconstructed and instead of steps there were rocks all over the place, made it quite a challenging walk. We had 3 hours in which to walk 10km, so we had to keep up a good pace to make sure we got to the end where the bus was going to pick us up. At the end of the wall there was a zip line down - as the wall is built ontop of the hills it's quite a walk down. 3 of us decided to give the zip line a try and it was pretty cool and alot quicker than walking! Plus we got a boat ride back across the river out of it! I had only one more day in Beijing, which I spent shopping, buying some olympic souviners (?Sp) and other things, that I didnt really need!
Randomly bumped in to Andy the crazy scottish guy again in the hostel and spent the afternoon chilling out, before heading off to my beloved hard seat - which Andy couldnt stop laughing at - thanks Andy!
Again the train journey was lovely - NOT! I hate hard seats!!!! Again I ended up surrounded by middle aged men who wanted to play cards all the time - at least they tried to have a chat with me, but I was pretty tired and just wanted to sleep - ye right like thats gonna happen with a boiling hot radiator sticking into my leg and a fat man taking up half my seat!
Luckly we arrived in Dalian at 6am, so, I could get off the train and eerm, I dunno what to do, it's 6am, what can you do?????
Anyways, I'll continue in the next one - this one is nice a short for you all!
Rach xx
