I've been in Rishikesh for 3 night now. I was going to head into the mts this morning but I didn't feel like waking up at 4:30AM, I'll wait till tomorrow morning. Rishikesh is better than the other cities I've seen thus far. The town is only about 200,000 and there are quite a few other travelers here. It's still dirty, loud, full of beggars- but on a lower level than the other cities I've been to.
To be honest, I'm not enjoying India. It's one thing to read about how dirty, loud, chaotic, etc it is; experiencing that all day everyday is another matter. Plus, I'm bored. I don't like to go shopping for souvenirs like jewelry, statues, rugs, etc. Temples don't do it for me either. I'm hoping to find a decent hotel tomorrow in the mountains that has some trails nearby.
Thanks for reading.

Crowds
The crowds would probably not set well with me either but I am sure the smell would have done me in a long time ago. You are a much stronger person than I. Looking forward to hearing. reading more on your trip.

Crowds? Smells? Lets do a festival!!
Okay, I've about finished reading 'Holy Cow' & it sounds like my biggest problem when I get there will be dealing with being a specimen to look at versus a human being. This is what we get when other countries see us through the eyes of 'Bay Watch.' I'm excited about the goddess festival in Kolkata as from what I've read, women aren't too high in status. Hopefully the mountains will provide you with some clean air & maybe a chance to meet some people. Bought my sleep sack today and am trying to make a camcorder decision. Make the most of this experience & try to remember that people are behaving the way they do out of a level of poverty you will never have to experience..Of course, when I'm ready to scream, you'll have to remind me of this sentiment....love you, mom
bored?!?!?
sorry it's taken me so long to check in, but c'mon dude, bored? really? i'm sure that won't last for long, but i can understand being fed up with the chaotic nature of the place- but just think, you could be stuck behind your security guard desk, reading about that scary imbecile mccain and his nitwit palin- see, don't you feel better? anyways, i'm pretty damn impressed that you're doing this trip in the first place, & while at times i'm jealous, i'd probably have lost it by now...so my hat's off to ya brother. keep the updates coming, and thanks for the pictures.
