My motivations now go no further than the genuine pursuit of happiness and spiritual enlightenment. I realize that the level of financial freedom that I want should not surpass the level of financial freedom that I need to survive. Our society is on a dangerous downward spiral, where social classes are becoming more distinct, social networking has all but ruined interpersonal relationships, and health and stress are becoming a national epidemic. People are so concerned with how other people view them, that it seems for many people that their only motivation for success is how they are viewed. I was once part of this. I liked driving the fancy cars to the fancy clubs with the bottle service and the sexy girlfriend. Not because I was successful, because I most certainly was not, but because I enjoyed people seeing me as successful. This pretentious lifestyle is rampant in most urban areas of California. Why does one buy jewelry? Does it really make a person feel pretty? Or does it make that person’s perception of how other people view them increase, thus increasing their perceived self-worth.
So from this point forward, I pledge to live in the moment, to live for myself and not for how others view me. I pledge to free myself from pompous desires, and focus on internal happiness rather than external possessions. I pledge to search the world for the answers that I do not yet know the questions to, and I pledge to share them with the world once they are uncovered.
To all my friends and family, trust in my safety, follow your heart and follow your dreams, and never let anyone, especially a dollar sign tell you that you can’t. Because where there is a will, there is ALWAYS a way.
A very close friend once shared a famous quote with me, “Life is not about finding yourself, Life is about Creating yourself.” My creation begins now.
