Dubai - 31st March 2008. Arrived in Dubai at 6 am we were up nice and early and on the tour bus by 7:30 no time for breakfast (not that we needed anymore food). Very hnot and dry 34 degrees. The tour bus took us to Sharjah to visit the old Fort built prior to British occupation. Dennis spotted some old aircraft photos relating to World War II. then onto a museum with interesting information about the changes over the years. So much building going on in Sharjah (and Dubai) a lot of money being spent on highrise buildings including the next tallest building int he world. We were taken to the old type of Souk (market/mall) where we saw more pashminas than you could every imagine. Next stop was the modern Souk in a new mall with more shops selling gold than we have ever seen before. We caught the bus back to the ship in time for lunch. In the afternoon we went into Dubai to see a old friend who was out there on holiday. We met Toms daughter Dot and her daugter Bethany (friends from our days in Germany now living in the Lake District). We spent the next couple of hours in a large shopping mall with over 400 shops sat down in a local cafe for coffee to chat and catch up on all the news. Nice to meet up with old friends. Back to the ship and the duty free to pick up our Gin and Whisky for the last leg of the cruise. Next stop Salalah.
