Mumbai (Bombay) - 28th March 2008. We arrived at 6am at the international port beside the Indian Navy ships. Another hot sultry day over 32 degrees at 10 am. Trip booked for a panoramic tour of Mumbai formerly known to the rest of us as Bombay. The city centre was very interesting with lots of lovely buildings from the days of British rule. Traffic unbelievable but very few motorbikes and mopeds. Apparently there are 50,000 yellow and black taxis in the city centre and 75,000 tuk tuks in the suburbs. The population is 18 million, 2 million are transients (they think). After the tour of the city sights we were taken to the Taj Mahal Hotel for light refreshments, beautiful huge hotel that overlooked the Marina and the monument Gate Way to India. Mumbia was a vibrant city and a vast improvement from Madras, which was very poor in comparison. In the evening a cultural show was performed for us by an Indian dance troup. Next stop Dubai
