Napier - 16th February 2008. Arrived in Napier about 12:45 and what a fantastic welcome we received from the locals. An air display by a couple of five ship formations and a flyby from a Catalina, superb, just the tick for our Dennis. When we disembarked some 300 vintage cars greeted us and all their passengers were dressed up in 1930s costumes. Apparently we arrived on the day of their Art Deco celebration weekend. In 1931 the town was destroyed by an earthquake and when they rebuilt the town the majority of buildings were built in the Art Deco style. So every year they dress up and have lots of celebrations to mark the occasion. We then went on tour to a couple of winery's driving through lots of orchards and vineyards. The scenery was remarkable. The wine wasn't too bad but not quite to our taste very young and tannic.
