Budapest is really old-school as far as I've seen! I've seen 3 things so far:

1. Subway - rattling old trains, made in USSR in 1980; hawk-eyed controllers on every entrance and exit; you are supposed to use a ticket every time you change a subway line; tickets are valid for 60 minutes on 1 line, but who needs to ride up and down the same line for an hour?

2. Hostel - located in an old building on the south side of Pest, it reminds me of St. Peterburg buildings with small courtyards inside, with a balcomy running on the inside wall, allowing neighbours to walk to each others' doors. I gotta post some pictures of this, it is so old-school! There's no lift though, and I had to drag my luggage up a really narrow and winding spiral staircase. Also there's only 2 bathrooms for the whole bunch of people.

3. Smoke. Every fucking person smokes every fucking second. As soon as the train stopped, people hopped off the train and started sucking their stinky sticks. What's even better they allow smoking in the hostel. F-ing great, as I don't have enough smoke everywhere else, like streets and restaurants.
