We left Colorado on Monday morning, and before we knew it, we were back in the flat farmlands and Central Time Zone of Nebraska, as we head for Knoxville Iowa and the Knoxville Nationals - a big four-day winged sprint car show that attracts racers from all over the country.  Driving along I-80, we came across the Great Platte River Road Archway Monument, a huge structure crossing the highway - a fairly new attraction, not too far from the Pioneer Village in Minden, Nebraska.  We weren't in a stopping mode, so I took a couple of pictures of it, and then looked it up online - it's pretty interesting - certainly the most interesting sight along this drive!
The landscape is so very different than the ocean, tall trees, and mountains we've been in all year, but last night's sunset was breathtaking, and more than made up for the flatness we're now surrounded by!
This morning, as we were leaving our overnight campground in Greenwood, Nebraska, we heard on the radio that a semi had wrecked on I-80, on the bridge over the Platte River, right where we were supposed to get on I-80.  After consulting "Satellite Sally", our GPS, and the Atlas, we found a way around it, which turned out to be the route the police were sending all the traffic, as I-80 had been closed in both directions.  After an hour and a half at a couple miles per hour through little towns, we are finally back on I-80, still in pouring rain, but at least the thunder and lightning have let up.   So, what was supposed to have been only a two to three hour drive to Knoxville, Iowa today has turned into about a four to five hour trip.
