We did take a tour of the Coast Guard Cutter "Active", which was pretty interesting. Here's a link to some information about it: http://www.uscg.mil/pacarea/active/history.htm
We were disappointed that the Canadian Navy vessels, Saskatoon, Brandon, and Nanaimo, which we saw come into port up the coast in Astoria the other day, were not open to viewing today. The Canadian warship Vancouver, one of the most advanced warships in the world, WAS open, but the lines were very long, and we didn't get there until later in the afternoon when we were already wearing down from having been on our feet quite a while
The two "tall ships" that were in the harbor here are much smaller than the one we saw last year (but that one was the 2nd or 3rd tallest in the world). One of the 2 that we saw today was the Lady Washington, which was in the Pirates of the Caribbean movie.
Imagine having a festival named for you, and not finding one piece of merchandise that you thought was worth spending your money on, even if it did have your name on it? Bummer for me, not so much for Greg!
