The day after Mom left, we started our northward trek, although we're going to take it slowly, as the weather still doesn't sound very friendly further north! We are now parked in our Thousand Trails Preserve in Advance, North Carolina - close to Lexington (BBQ Capital of North Carolina!) and Winston-Salem. We're about an hour from Charlotte, "Race City, USA" - where the majority of the Nascar race teams are based. We're staying here a couple of weeks, relaxing, catching up on projects around the "home" and on the car, and doing a bit of sightseeing - visiting a few of the race shops that we missed when we were here a couple of years ago, and checking out the area, in general.
This park is very peaceful - and every morning, we wake up to a surround-sound symphony of birds. Spring hasn't quite sprung here as much as it had in the other areas we've been. The trees are just barely beginning to show the light green buds that will become leaves...but the many flowering trees - red buds, and cherry and apple blossoms, are in full bloom, and beautiful!
The park is about 5 miles down the road from Childress Winery - owned by Richard Childress, owner of big Nascar race teams, including the late Dale Earnhardt, and Kevin Harvick, Jeff Burton and Clint Bowyer. The winery has recenty started serving Sunday Brunches, and after seeing the menu online, we decided we had to try it out! What a gourmet treat - and very affordable! We may go again next week, it was so good!
On Monday, we went to Concord and Mooresville - visited Hendrick Motorsports (home of "our guys" Jimmie Johnson #48, and now, Dale Earnhardt, Jr., #88) and JR Motorsports, owned by Dale Earnhardt, Jr.
