We left Wilmington Wednesday morning, and this time, our trip on the Ft. Fisher Ferry was a sunny, beautiful ride.  We opened the windows and enjoyed the fresh air as our home floated across the waterway from Ft. Fisher/Kure Beach, North Carolina to Southport, South Carolina.  Satellite Sallly, our GPS, tracked the speed at a peak of 13 mph!
Our site at Apache Family Campground at Myrtle Beach was the same one as last time, but unfortunately, a much longer rig was parked next to us, which effectively blocked our view of the ocean from the motorhome.  Although the skies had gotten quite gray soon after we got to the campground, I did take Mom in her wheelchair for a walk down to the beach - we returned just before the wind and a rainstorm whipped up!  The Apache Pier, which goes out into the ocean from here, is the longest pier on the Atlantic Seaboard at 300 yards.  Last time we brought Mom here, in '06, we took her all the down to the end of the pier, but the weather didn't cooperate this time.
Thursday was a rainy day, so I took Mom to the mall for awhile - she was anxious to try out her "driving" skills again, but, alas - this mall did not have the motorized carts!  We played Scrabble in the evening - and Mom's skills had sharpened up again during her visit, so she beat me in the last two games we never ceases to amaze me - how quickly she can spot words and find places to put them on the board!  Must be a result of all her crossword puzzle skills, combined with a little "game" she's played over the years when she needed to kill time - she'll write a word at the top of a piece of paper, and then see how many other words she could make by reorganizing the letters.  Still sharp, after all these years!
Friday was pack up day - getting Mom ready to fly out in the evening, and printing off pictures and stories of where we'd been and who we'd seen over the last week and a half - as her short term memory has worsened, she really appreciates it when I do this for her.  We went to Olive Garden for dinner, and then to the airport.  Other than a one hour delay in departure, which made for a very late night at the other end for my sister Jill, all went well, and Mom was happy as could be as they wheeled her into the plane - exclaiming again how much fun she'd had!
