The fast pace continues!  After about a 4 hour drive and a half hour ride on the Ft. Fisher Ferry (from Southport, S.C. to Kure Beach/Ft. Fisher, NC)on Sunday, we settled in at Carolina Beach Family Campground, and set to planning our vists with Cousin Adele and her friend Terry, (visiting from Ottawa!); and Mom's Brother Tony and his wife Peggy.  The ferry ride is one we've done before - it's such fun to pull our "house" onto the ferry boat and just relax as we take the 20 minute trip accompanied by seagulls and pelicans.  It's also less expensive, at $15, than driving inland around this waterway!
What a wonderful visit this has been for my Mom - she's thriving on the constant attention from Cousins Janet (in Hilton Head) and Adele (here in Wilmington), and they love having her here, as well, since they recently lost their Mom, who had much of the "spunk" that my Mom has.  And of course, it's very meaningful for Mom to spend time with her younger (age 84) Brother, Tony.  As always, our visit here has also been very gratifying in the food category - we've been spoiled with Adele and Tony's wonderful pasta dinners!
A fun aspect of this visit included our having a chance to meet Adele's oldest and best friend, Terry, who's a published and award-winning poet from Ottawa.  I was so pleased that Terry gave me a copy of her most recently published book of poems, "Transplanted" --- it re-introduced me to poetry, and has created a rhythm of words in my head.
Another memorable event was when, at Adele's insistence, we took Mom to the mall and, for the first time in her life, put her "behind the wheel" of a motorized vehicle, (we got a motorized cart for her to drive around the mall).  Once Adele told Mom that her Mom had learned how to "drive" at the age of 93, my Mom HAD to do it! I'm glad to say there were no casualties of this experiment. and Mom had a ball!
