One of the more frustrating parts of the day was when we ended up behind a LOOONG line of cars who were behind a very large very WIDE LOAD - this, in an area that was a hilly, curvy, and narrow two-lane highway.
We stopped at a pull-off next to the Susquehana River and made a sandwich - a beautifully relaxing spot, and it was one of the brief respites that we had from rain this day.
Finally, with the rain coming down hard again, we reached Hershey, Pennsylvania -
Although our park is called the Thousand Trails Hershey Preserve, it is actually about 10 minutes beyond Hershey in the extended area called Lebanon, PA. We got to the park, quickly found a pull-thru site near our friends Ann & Ken Sair, and even more quickly ran over to their coach for a beer and a glass of wine! The last time we saw Ann and Ken was back in Arizona, early in our time there, and before they came East for a good portion of the year, so we had some catching up to do with them, and we were happy that they had extended their stay at Hershey by an extra day so we could do that catching up! After the rain let up a bit, we went back to our place, got set up, cleaned up, and then went out to Jo Boy's Brewpub in nearby Manheim for a wonderful Southern-style barbecue dinner, filled with lots of laughs and shared information of places to go, places we've been, and plans going forward! A great evening to end a long day of driving!
