A mostly uneventful drive - we saw a lot of Indy Car haulers heading West - they're on their way to Long Beach for the Grand Prix. Saw some NASCAR fan RV's heading East - they're on their way to Dallas for this weekend's races. Us - no racing on the schedule, but lots of exploring to be done over the next week or so!
Late in the morning, we saw some dark clouds collecting ahead of us, and knew that the predicted thunderstorms were probably going to get us by the time we got to Amarillo - but they continued to mostly move around us, making for some pretty awesome photos (you know me and the clouds!)
We pulled off of I-40 just after hitting the Amarillo city line, so that we could drive along Old Route 66 (aka the service road!) to see the roadside attraction known as "Cadillac Ranch"
Of course the rain began as soon as we got to the park, but quit fairly quickly, and despite our county being in a Severe Storm Watch all night - it seems to have continued to go all around us, with only telltale signs of lightning and thunder every once in a while. Sure hope it stays away tomorrow, as we really want to spend some time at Palo Duro Canyon, known as the "Grand Canyon of Texas"!
