Whew! When we ended our February 26th entry with "Later" - we certainly didn't intend for it to be so much later! Although this is dated March 5th, it's really being written on March 21st, as it's finally a day when we don't have a lot of events and/or projects scheduled (well, one of us doesn't!), and pictures have been taken all along the way with the intention of doing regular updates! It seems to make organizational sense to go back and do about one week (or one "move") per entry, so that's what is happening here!
On Tuesday night, February 28th, we went to Downtown Disney and had dinner at the Rainforest Cafe. The server reminded me that the only other Rainforest Cafe I'd been to (they always ask if you've been there before as they're seating you), at the Mall of America in Minneapolis, was the first one ever been built. If you've never been to the Rainforest Cafe, do try it sometime - besides really great food, it's an experience that includes animated (and very lifelike) rainforest critters all around you while you eat - tree frogs, gorillas, emus, parrots, and indoor thunderstorms about every half hour! Our server also said that the designer/developer of Rainforest is working on a new concept, which will be dinosaur-themed - something to look forward to for all of you with kids and grandkids, for sure!
Rose's sister's week in Orlando was really busy, and complicated by Jill's coming down with complete laryngitis on the drive out here. Add to that the crowd that came to town with Jill and Rick (which included Megan and Nate and four of their friends, most of whom were also fighting colds and such), and connecting up became a bit of a challenge. We did finally manage to get together with them all one evening at their condo at Disney's Old Key West Resort, and we had a good visit. (I could have sworn I took pictures there, but can't find them anywhere in my computer!)
Later that same week, we went to the Detroit Tigers Spring Training Opener in Lakeland. They played the Cincinnati Reds, and won the game 8-5. You can see by the pictures (sorry - they're not great quality, as I forgot my camera and had to use the cell phone) that we had great seats, in the 3rd row, right behind home plate! (See Picture #1) We decided to go to the game on the spur of the moment, so we didn't buy tickets ahead. Someone was selling their tickets outside for just about half price - and boy, did we enjoy them!
On Saturday night, March 4th, we went to Old Town Kissimmee, where they have Classic Car/Street Rod Shows every Friday and Saturday night. It was the first car show we'd been to since selling the '37 Chevy last June,(See Picture #2) so it was somewhat bittersweet, but fun, just the same. We were surprised at the great turnout, since they have it two nights every week! (See Pictures #3 and 4) There was a band playing oldies, and the entire Old Town area, which is evidently owned by one person, and therefore is private property, is much like a street fair, with beer being sold out on the streets, and a real party atmosphere for blocks on end.
On Sunday, March 5th, we moved house back to Pat's Place in Webster, knowing we had lots of good visits, good food (See Picture #5)great music, Scrabble slaughters (Pat is a wicked Scrabble player!), and several other activities (details to follow!) in store.
