We arrived safely last Thursday at "Rainbow's End", headquarters of Escapees RV Club, and our "home base" park.(Picture #1) Before the sun had set that evening (see Picture #2), we had picked up and picked through a month or more of mail that had been collecting for us there. The friendliness and helpfulness of the folks there has not been exagerated in club materials, as they provided us with all the information we needed to get our vehicles inspected and licensed, our drivers licenses issued, and registered to vote - all of which we accomplished on Friday! We spent Saturday exploring, taking a long, top-down drive in the car to Galveston Island, crossing a really unique-looking bridge(See Picture #3) (And no, we don't know the name of it, and can't remember what it spanned - believe it was a shipping channel) getting our first view of the Gulf (See Picture #4) and our first "official Texans" taste of fabulous Gulf shrimp cocktails at Gaido's famous seafood restaurant, which has been operating there on Seawall Blvd
We stayed a couple more days in Livingston, awaiting some mail that didin't show up, but putting the time to good purpose, with Greg working on and around the motorhome, and Rose working on future campground reservations, itinerary scheduling and re-scheduling, and bill-paying. (No rest for the weary!!)
This morning we scraped the frost off the windows of the TransAm (we've had some very cold nights, in Arizona, New Mexico AND Texas!), drove it onto the tow dolly, and got on the road at 7 a.m., planning to spend the night in Gulfport, Mississippi and then drive a long day tomorrow to Silver Springs, Florida, where we'll meet up with our almost-full-timer racing buddies RuthAnn and Frank to go to some of the Speed Weeks races at Daytona and smaller, surrounding tracks. It may be a week or two before we stop long enough to do another update, but never fear - it will come! 'Til then...see ya'll down the road! (By the way, excuse the quality of the Galveston pictures - I forgot the camera and resorted to using the cellphone!)
