As a day trip from Rome we managed to fit Pompeii. This little town on
the southern coast suffered the wrath of Mt.Vesuvius. Frozen in time
since 79AD it gives you a chance to walk through an ancient city of the
Roman empire from 2000 years ago. some of the shops still had paints
and decorations in place. Restaurants still had big pots in the counter
to the public for food storage and a big stove behind them. houses
still had tiny intricately tiled floor. The theater and Colosseum were
also impressive. The most surprising thing about Pompeii is how big it
is. Its takes a while to walk though it.
