Lanta Angel Bungalows

We left the friendly P.A.N Beach Bungalows 4 days ago and got a ferry to Ko Lanta - we had heard mixed reports about this Island so didn't really know what to expect.  Managed to find cheap (!) bungalows on 'Long Beach', which are literally bamboo huts - no glass in the windows and open bathroom!! So muchos mosquitoes and cocky-roaches (don't worry, I have my roach catcher, Matt, on hand at ALL  times), but they are pretty darn cool and brand new, so no old bed! At night we feel like we are at one with nature, camping in the Thai wilderness...our mosquito net acts as our saftey zone!!

Hired a scooter for 2 days and explored the island a bit - I think we've visited nearly all of the 10-ish beaches/bays along the coast!  Ko Lanta itself isn't as bad as some of the reports - we prefered Railay's beaches (more paradise-like), but the many bays etc around this island are still good...big waves to throw ourselves at, plus there is a lot to do here, so we certainly haven't been bored.  We've eaten some DELICIOUS Thai street food, perhaps the tastiest and spiciest green curry we've ever had...needed a banana shake to cool our mouths down though!!

Met up with Hayley (Mike's daughter) yesterday, who has been travelling Indonesia/Malaysia/Thailand diving, and went for some beers at a beach-side bar.  Was really good to see a familiar face, so we could swap tales of travels and adventures.

Today we went on a boat trip to Ko Phi Phi. Again, we had received varied opinions about this place but decided to go and see for ourselves. It certainly is a beautiful place - clear water and white sands - but it is VERY touristy. Apparently after the tsunami hit the island has been rebuilt into a tourist resort type destination and it seems a little over-the-top - think Irish pubs and Brit bars! But we had great fun snorkelling with some amazing, colourful fish (saw a large Gill from Finding Nemo - he said Hi!) and trekking up the hill to the 3 viewpoints, which give you some spectacular panoramic views...piccies to come! Unfortunately, the weather wasn't our friend as we headed to 'The Beach' (Leo Di Caprio film) at Maya Bay and the longboat had to turn back due to the waves crashing into us - Leah was a tad scared!! Met another friendly couple from London who have both lived in Plymouth at some point! Emily has even worked up the Broadway!!! Chris works at Abbey Road music studio - rubbing shoulders with Take That and Paul McCartney amongst others! Will try and get some celeb goss tomorrow night when we meet for drinks!

Tomorrow is our last full day in Thailand (can't believe our 30 days is up! :-( We are thinking about a cooking class and maximum beach chilling to end our stay here. Then it's off to Kuala Lumpur for the next stage!!
