Going deep!!!

The trip to the Blue hole today started at 5.45 in the morning! I know, but as long as diving is involved I really can get out of bed if I must!!!!
It took two hours to get from Caye Caulker to the dive site and we were the first ones there luckily. We quickly got geared up and went into the big abyss. I knew that it wouldn't be much life down there, but I'm still happy having done it since it's a legend for divers. The Blue hole is a perfectly circular deep blue hole in the middle of the ocean. It used to be a cave and the top collapsed, so the round shape was created and divers decided to explore it. Inside you go down to around 45 metres and you can see stalagmites and stalagnites which is pretty cool since it's so different from what you normally see. There were some barracudas and some quite large reef sharks in there, apart from that there wasn't much to write about down there. The dive itself is very short because of the depth. (25 mins) After, we went to two other reefs and did 2 very good wall dives. In between we had lunch at Half moon caye, an island where there was a bird sanctuary. It was a fantastic place. The colours of the water and the palm trees fringing that beach should make great photos and I got some good close ups of the birds as well. I met two guys from my hometown Trondheim on the boat today, which is kind of amusing, given the size of this place. It's a small world...
Tomorrow I'll be going back to Belize city to take a bus into the jungle. I'll spend a day in Sittee river before going to Glover's reef, where I'll be staying for a week of diving. So far I've managed to be able to dive and photograph a bit, but I am very careful not to overexert myself, especially since I have another 10 days left of this "test". I won't be online until I get back to Boulder, and I won't be able to upload photos before I get back, so check in a couple of weeks if you are interested in how this place looks like. I think I have some good images... They will appear darker than they are though, because they get compressed to fit this site. Am sorry about that. The pics are better than they seem when you see them here on this site, but you can get an impression of course.
Wish me luck on this insane trip, I have kind of realised that it was a bit much, too soon, but I hope I'll hang in there until I get back to the States. More thumbnails ...
