The flight over to the Maldives was fine, but clearing Immigration took forever. It's one of the least efficient Immigration queues I've experienced ever in the world! It took over an hour to get through, they spent so much time scrutinizing each passenger, I've never seen anything like it. We got more and more frustrated and kept switching queues, to no avail, they were all excruciatingly slow...
I was accepted into the country after all, and was picked up by my first hotel. I never even saw my luggage after having cleared customs. I was so impressed by the service level, it's extremely high. I had a couple of hours at Maldivian air taxi terminal waiting for my short flight to Komandoo island. I thought I'd be very tired after my long journey, but the wait was fine, I amused myself watching the seaplanes take off and land, so two hours went by very quickly.
The flight from Male to Komandoo lasted around 45 minutes and it was great! Even though the weather wasn't fantastic, you have the best view of the Maldives' islands and atolls. I kept photographing, wishing I could stay longer than two weeks already. We landed close to Komandoo. A boat waited for us near the pontoon where we got off, and we were transported over to the island. Komandoo is beautiful. It's small - around 35 bungalows, which suited me perfectly! I had heard that their spa was fantastic and couldn't wait to try it. I felt exhausted as I got on the island. The manager gave us a short welcome speech, we were given homemade coconut ice cream and a sandwich, before we were shown to our respective bungalows.
My bungalow was extremely spacious. I couldn't believe I had all that space to myself. It's nicely decorated, you have all the amenities you'll need on a tropical island. The bathroom is semi-outdoors/semi-indoors. I know some guests don't like this because of the small geckos and insects, but I loved being able to shower outside. The bungalow is on the beach only 8 steps from the Indian ocean. I didn't even unpack before I hit the water... It felt great and I think that was when I realized that I was in fact in the Maldives and that I had 2 more weeks before having to return home. More thumbnails ...
