After a two hour flight delay, finally arrived at O'Hare around 10pm. I have never seen O'Hare so empty. My friend Beth met me at the luggage area and we were off to her place in Evanston.
After running some errands in the morning, we headed into the city. We went to John Hancock building and had lunch at the Signature Room. We had a nice view of Lake Michigan from our table. We both had the buffet. There was a great view of the Chicago skyline from buffet area.
We walked around a little bit after lunch. They had already put up the Christmas tree and were in the process of putting on the lights. It seems so early! We stopped in the huge American Girl store. I had heard of these, but had no idea just how popular they are. Little girls came in with their American Girls
We tried to check out the water tower, but it was closed. The water tower is one of the few structures that survived the Great Chicago Fire in 1871. Usually it has photographic exhibits but it looked like they were changing the exhibits. So we crossed the street over to the Ghirardelli store. They were giving out free samples of their peppermint bark. Across the street was the Hershey store, so we ducked into there too. We watched a girl become a "Hershey Factory Worker". She had a bucket which was placed under a big pipe. She then had to spin various values to get the machine working. Then it dumped a huge amount of chocolate into the bucket. It was fun to watch.
Since the day was still pretty early, we headed over to the Chicago History Museum. I wish we would have gotten there earlier. They had an exhibit called "Chicago: Crossroads of America" which was fantastic but we ran out of time to see all of it. We had also checked out the diorama room called "Imagining Chicago." Some of my favorite stuff had to do with the two World Fairs that Chicago hosted.
Finally we decided to head back to Evanston where I crashed for a much needed nap.

. I hear that you can have a tea party there with your doll. I saw that they are retiring one named Samantha. I was never a big doll girl, so the whole phenomenon is strange for me.We tried to check out the water tower, but it was closed. American Girls
Wow, you've never heard of Am. Girls? One of my friends (older) was super into them and I got the catalog once. So I know who Samantha is. I'm not happy about that knowledge.
Hmm. Peppermint Bark. Yummy.
