Started the day at Evans Plunge in Hot Springs. It is an indoor pool made from numerous small and one Mammoth spring of mineral water. The Native Americans and the early white settlers both believed the mineral water was good for curing ills. While the water is no longer sought as a cure for ills, I found it very relaxing and for the first time this whole trip my ankles weren't swollen. Evans Plunge is another one of the places we visited 24 years ago. I remember it being deeper back then and there being more things. They added an outdoor pool with a slide. There was also two slide in the indoor part where the pool was fed by the mineral spings. While there wasn't much on the thrill side there, we find plenty to do. We played water basketball and later we joined others in a water volleyball game. They also had some tarzan rings, but we didn't try those. We enjoyed watching as most people felt trying to get to the second ring. There was one boy there who we nicknamed "monkey boy" who just swung from ring to ring and sometimes would almost do a flip as he swung
After a few hours of swimming, it was lunch time. So we left the calming waters of Evans Plunge and ventured into downtown Hot Springs. We ate at a little place called the Blue Bison. Unfortunately, by the time we go there they were all out of the daily soup. They did have some Bison Chili left but I decided to stick with just a sandwich. I also had these potato chips that were garlic and parmesan flavored. Very tasty. We got ice cream for dessert. I had the cherry nut which was a cherry flavored ice cream with nuts in it
We then drove to our next night stop, Wall, SD home of the world famous Wall Drug. We headed into downtown and had dinner at a local place called The Cactus Cafe. Then we went over to Wall Drug. We sampled the famous free ice water. It wasn't too cold and it was also kind of salty. We saw the T Rex and Isaiah played in the spitting water. We called it an early night and decided not even to swim though tonight we had a pool. Guess we had enough swimming for the day.
