Today we visited Washington's Crossing, the intersection in Trenton where Washington began his surprise attack on the Hessians, the Hessian barracks, and the Assunpink Creek battle site.  I thought it was kinda cool to be exactly where these important battles took place.  We looked across the Delaware River at the exact place where the army crossed over in a terrible blizzard to make their attack.  We stood at the top of the hill at the exact intersection where Washington set up his canon to sweep through Trenton.  Assunpink Creek is now just a small city park - it doesn't look like anything really important!  But it was here that Washington's artillery pushed back a British counterattack three times in a row.  The we headed up to Princeton, which was the third amazing American victory in a row during the "10 Crucial Days" that changed the direction of the Revolution.

I liked seeing Washington's Crossing to see the place where he landed after coming from Pennsylvania.  We saw some geese head into the water right where Washington pulled up!  On our way to the park, we missed the turn into the entrance, but luckily we came across an ice cream shop nearby.  We loved the ice cream, but we thought that Washington's troops probably wouldn't have wanted any because they were marching in a blizzard.  Lots of them didn't even have any shoes!  Our weather was pretty hot - we kept looking for shady spots in the park by the river.  At the barracks, we got to see the actual red uniforms of the British "Redcoats".  They looked cool.
