Dear Friends and Family,
It is about 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday in Chengdu and we are still here. The airports and train station are still closed. We did have aftershocks throughout the evening and slept in our clothes. We thought we might need to run out at about 4:00 a.m. when an aftershock hit and continued for what seemed a long time.
The home where we are at is safe. The upstairs bathroom had the roof collapse in and it was quite a sight. Bricks completely filled the toilet and bathtub. The guys emptied the bricks out onto the back porch last night and it looks like the toilet and tub are o.k. Us girls swept and cleaned. A tidal wave was created in the fish tank and both the fish tank and toilet spilled over in the downstairs bathroom.
We are blessed to have phone, internet, water and electricity. We have no gas for the gas stove or oven so we have been creative in making meals.
We have no idea when we will be about to get out and our trip schedule is currently on hold. The airports and train station are currently closed. From what we understand, the epicenter was about 60 miles away and there is an incredible loss of life there (reports of about 10,000) and people still trapped.
Love you all,
Wendy for the Tueys
