Hello all, we made it safely to Chengdu on Thursday evening. We arrived at DIA at about 6:00 a.m. and got bags checked and to the gate. Our first layover was in Vancouver where we saw a bald eagle flying around outside the window. After a 3 hour layover, we got on the plane for an 11-hour flight to Beijing. The trip was uneventful and the kids finally fell asleep for about 3 hours on the plane. They were both laying on me. Customs and baggage transfer in Beijing was remarkably easy, although security checking our carry-on baggage was interesting. They opened almost every bag and were surprised by the amount of chocolate we had along. They also thought that Cian's toothbrush that lights up at the bottom was extremely funny. We had a 2-hour layover in Beijing and the airline ride to Chengdu was uneventful.
The kids traveled extremely well and we are still fighting jet lag. Internet access has been limited and this is the first opportunity we have had to connect with all of you. I am sitting in a restaurant where we are having breakfast and noticed the computer but I didn't bring the cord for the camera to be able to send any pictures.
We have met some new, great American friends here in Chengdu as well as some Chinese nationals. Yesterday, we visited a shopping area where there were small temple areas to leave small items, some Tibetans as well as a Buddhist temple within the shopping area.
We will be leaving soon for fellowship with about 300 people to be in attendance. This is our last evening in Chengdu and tomorrow evening we leave at about 10:00 p.m. for the overnight train to Xichang, about 10 hours by train to the south where we will visit an outlaying Yi (Nosu) village.
Blessings to all and I will write again as soon as I can.
