Day 15

Macau, birth place of my Mom and where the project I'm working on (City of Dreams) is located.
The weekend turned out to have nice weather so I took a TurboJet ferry over to the island. Including boarding time, the journey only took an hour long. I was informed by others that when I arrive, I would get bombarded by "taxi/tour guides". From what everyone said, they're pretty reasonable in price (with some haggling) and they wait for you while you visit the sights.
Macau is growing constantly. There is construction everywhere and according to my guide, there are 26 Casinos and growing. And no, I didn't gamble. It was tempting but I was saving my money for other expenses. Macau has been called the Las Vegas of China. When you see the photos, you'll know why. And I thought Vegas had gaudy Architecture, there's some pretty ugly buildings there but at the same time it fits all together.
I wish I stayed longer but the place was a lot larger than I thought and I couldn't see everything in one day. My favorite spots were the "old town" areas of Macau with the cobble stone roads and old temples. It makes me wonder if my Mom was in these places.
I have 21 days to go and counting.

Hey Annie Leibowitz, nice photos! You have a real eye. I wish that we could have spent more time in the old town. I love the more ornate and colorful architecture as opposed to the dirty concrete of HK.
I didn't know your mom was born in Macau. Did she spend a lot of time there?
How's the pool at Manhattan Heights? Gil and I aren't ready for him to go back so maybe you'd li... show all

You Didn't Stay... (reply) Apr 30, 2007 16:35 EST by gildo
...long enough. Unlike Las Vegas, that place shuts down around 10:30 or so at night. Yes, shuts down so it may want to be Las Vegas, it really isn't. LOL
But since you went to the Fisherman's Temple, you should be able to land the big fish if you go throw a line out in Victoria Harbour.
21 days? That's it? Jeez. LOL
