Everyday was a new experience. For the most part we woke up around 6:00 am so that we would be ready for morning devotional by 7 and breakfast shortly after. Morgan and I shared a dorm room which was good because then others wouldn't have to put up with our mess! We had what we called our " company's" which basically was our family for that week. Ours consisted of 10 boys and 10 girls and our councilors Andre and Nikki. We were escorted everywhere we went by the boys in our group which was an interesting experience in itself because we are just not used to that.
We had classes each day about different gospel related subjects and about finding the confidence within us to help us achieve our goals. They were taught by amazing teachers and alot of them had humor in them so that was nice.
We ate breakfast, lunch and dinner in the cafeteria on the University campus. It was all really good food, and Morgan and I tried to eat as healthy as possible, but that didn't exactly work. There was so many choices that sometimes i found myself eating ice cream for breakfast. O well...it always kept me going throughout the day.
That first evening we focused on getting to know our company's a bit more. We played icebreaker games, and other type activities that helped us to feel more comfortable around each other.
It was amazing how quickly we grew together as a company. Before we knew it we were in each others dorms before dances or dinner, doing each others hair and make-up or talking about our COW's which is an EFY term for Crush Of Week.
It was an interesting experience being the one of the only Canadians at efy, with exception to a guy named Jakob who was from Nova Scotia
On the Friday night was the night for the formal dance. All the girls took there free time before dinner to get ready for it so that we could all curl our hair and try to look our best. We were getting ready to got to dinner like always when we were stooped by some of the guys. They said they wouldn't let us in to the cafeteria until ALL of our company was together. We didn't know why, because usually we didn't wait for each other, but after alot of questioning we decided to just listen to them. It turned out that we were just waiting for 2 boys who locked their bedroom with there keys in it and were waiting outside there dorm rooms in there towels because they had just gotten back from having a shower. By the time they eventually arrived almost all the company's had finished there dinner. Then all the boys escorted us in to dinner which was unusual in itself because that is usually the time that everyone just does there own thing. But instead of leading us to the place were all the food is, they lead us straight to our tables.
Three long tables were put together at each end and all the cutlery was out. The boys even made roses out of ties and put them in glasses. As we came up to the table the boys lead us to our spot and asked for our order. We were completely shocked, because our company was the only one doing this. They brought us our orders and we constantly asking us if we needed anything. It was so sweet of them to do that for us and it definitely was a highlight of our evening.
We were very sad to have to say good-bye to all of our friends, but we have all there e-mails so hopefully we will all stay in touch. Overall EFY was an amazing experience and Morgan and I are already talking about saving up for next year :)
