Grand Canyon, Here we come! Our plan for to day was to visit Grand Canyon early, then get on our way to Albuquerque. We had decided to visit the Grand Canyon at sunrise. No one woke up….I happened to wake up just as the sun was rising……"Dad wake up!"      "Grace!!!! I was in a heavy sleep!!" …….Anyway, we didn't end up going to see the sunrise over the Canyon. But we did see the Canyon in the early morning sun, which was absolutely gorgeous. Do you know that  the Grand Canyon is 7000 ft above sea level??!! - quite high and on some parts along the path that you walk on (which is on the rim of a cliff) they have no rails……so you could easily fall down……1.6km… good for my little brother. Grand Canyon was freezing. Grand Canyon was spectacular.

After viewing this amazing Canyon, we made tracks. Time to get going, on to New Mexico!.  But…..on the way we had a few stops (well maybe a bit more than a few). throughout all of this, Dad was gasping for air saying that the high altitude was making him lose oxygen :) . First distraction, Elks crossing, they were gorgeous creatures, a bit like deer, there was a whole herd of them, all grazing just beside the road.  2nd distraction, Dad, He wanted to get a few picis of this old plane (which I thought was boring) but that was my opinion. 3rd distraction, we saw our first big patch of snow (or at least us kids thought it was big) and we stopped and had a snow fight and built a snowman. Distraction number 4, over the road from our snow patch was a small A-framed chapel, so we checked it out. 5th distraction, we had to stop at a fuel station to stock up on petrol and a few food items. 6th distraction, Dad wanted to go see this crater, so he took me up to take a few shots of this gigantic crater made by a meteorite. Last but not least, we had to stop to for dinner in Gallup, which is in New Mexico. on the way to Burger King we nearly had a few smash-ups (Dad's night vision isn't so good - and perhaps he was distracted) but came out safely.

I think that's the lot of our distractions!

After dinner we looked through Gallup, and found a RV park, but Dad having not good night vision, missed the turn and instead turned on to the highway. Oh boy, this is becoming a long night. But not for long, we exited off the highway on to the city of Grants. We found another RV park and put down the anchor for the night. Tomorrow is a big day, heading for Dallas, Texas, Should get there over the next few days, but a lot of driving to do!……..time for a cup of tea!  :)
