This was a day of divide and conquer, then regroup. Annie met Ashlin for church at the Dominion Theatre, home of the musical "We Will Rock You," while I opted for the somewhat more sedate setting of lunch at Gaby's Deli.  Going to the Gent’s at Gaby’s, I looked out the window and noticed a long-abandoned coffee pot sitting on the roof (see photo).

After lunch I headed for a 3 pm rendezvous with the two A’s for Evensong at Westminster Abby.  I ran the gamut through ultra-touristic Parliament Street.  There was a big crowd around the Horse Guards--the gorgeous black horses, mounted by men playing dress-up in fancy red uniforms with lots of curly gold braid, patiently endured an endless queue of tourists posing next to their muzzles. There were endless fancy government buildings, culminating in Downing Street itself.  I muscled my way through the throngs, and finally entered the cool and peaceful sanctuary of Westminster Abby.  The music and setting were glorious; I’m sure they rocked me more than church at the Dominion Theatre would have done.  I think that A and A felt likewise.

We then made our way to the younger of the two A’s flat in Brockley, where she whipped up a grand dinner.  The whipping was all the more impressive since Ashlin had no whisk or electric beater; the egg whites and cream and melted chocolate (read: chocolate mousse) were dealt with by the rapid movement of two forks.  The bowl-cum-forks were passed around the room so everyone could contribute elbow grease to the proceedings.  In addition to me, Annie, and Ashlin, the beaters included Ashlin’s roomie, Louise, and her friend, Ben.  A fine time was had by all.  We even Skyped with the Denver folks.  Brother Trevor was able to make only a very limited appearance because he was busy cleaning carpets, which not unreasonably took precedence over the witnessing of the residual chocolate mousse.
