Ian took the kids via tram to Golden Gate Park to play and catch up on weeks of work on their scrapbook. The park is near to Haight which is were the LCD Acid hippy chick movement was founded and the evidence of those still dosed up to the eyeballs was evident in the park. The homeless of San Fran is very evident also the mix of wealthy neighbourhoods next to poor. The over population and lack of accommodation creates this mix and thankfully creates an atmosphere of tolerance not aggression. I think this, along with the fusion of immigrants, makes San Fran similar to London. I love the way that so many movements in the USA have been founded in this small space – 60s anti war, gay movement, It movement right up to today with the Twitters.
The children mocked Ian for taking so many photos of the houses around the park. But you can't help it, as they are lovely, built into hillside, high steps to marbled entrances, pretty and painted in pastel colours.
We all met in Fishermans Wharf and soaked up the colourful atmosphere and indulged in fish n chips (which was not that great- Tooting Bec 'chippy’ wins hands down). We then took a walk down the curly Lombard Street and up and down the various neighbourhood streets.
